When you go to sleep, do you switch off all the lights inside the house and leave a light on the outside opened?
A friend of mine had attended a safety seminar and was told that if we were to keep the lights on the inside off and the outside light on, we are effectively informing potential theives that the family’s asleep. The wiser solution would be to leave a small table light on at night. This will give the impression that someone is may still be awake.
My friend stays alone in her home and is very mindful of her safety. She keeps the kitchen light on and has an outer light that carries a timer- the light will automatically turn on at a certain time everyday. I noticed that nowadays, my neighbours also tend to keep a small light on the inside on. Somehow, it gives potential thieves less confidence of breaking into a house that is lighted.
